Flip your Perspective: Write Like a Character
*Write a letter from one character in your book to another. This works really well when there is an unresolved conflict, or pick to write the letter from just before or after the climax of the story.
*Write from one character in a book to a character in another completely different book. Maybe they're writing to eachother to ask questions or connect over similar experiences.
*Write three journal or diary entries from the perspective of your character.
* Write a poem or set of poems that describe how the character was feeling at multiple points in the story.
*Create a blog post based on your character's interests. Would they be a fashion blogger? Would they write a "How to..." like Rafe's overall idea in James Patterson's Middle School: The Worst Years of my Life?
What is fanfiction?
Fanfiction is just what it sounds like! Fiction created by fans! Fanfiction is always based on an existing work of art. You are essentially making a story that expands or otherwise alters existing fiction.
The mediums you might choose from are endless. Fanfics have been written about books, movies, television shows, video games, and just about anything else with a narrative base and a fandom to admire it. You should pick a fictional universe you already feel closely to. Common choices for fanfic are Star Wars, Harry Potter, and a number of anime shows. |
Fanfiction: P.o.V Flipping or Alternate Events
Put the fate of the characters in your own hands! Have you ever wished a story had ended differently or a character had made a different decision? Or what would happen if you changed the gender of a character or added in a new character in the same world?
Get started on a Google Doc and add your ideas to an important scene or whole story! You could even write a letter to another character, create poetry based on that world or character, or change just a scene instead of a whole story.

You might want to consider creating an account on Wattpad or Fanfiction.net to share your stories with a broader audience, too! Please be aware that these are public sites and search only school appropriate genres. There are options to filter the content K-G, PG, etc, so please do so. Considering this is part of interacting with the internet and real publishing options.
