The Serial CommaGrammar rule: Use a serial comma in a list of three or more ideas, items, or phrases.
Non-Examples: I had eggs, toast and orange juice. ( The comma before "and" is missing. See below. ) She played volleyball soccer and tennis. ( The comma between volleyball and soccer is missing. The comma before "and" is also missing. See below.) He ate dinner and went to practice and then did his homework. ( The "and" between "dinner" and "went" should be replaced with a comma to increase sentence fluency. See below. ) Examples: * I had eggs, toast, and orange juice. * She played volleyball, soccer, and tennis. * He ate dinner, went to practice, and then did his homework. |
