1/12 Homework: Please write this on paper.
After reading "All Summer in a Day", you know that the ending was left open for the reader to interpret the reactions of the children and Margot. Consider what type of life or universal lesson Ray Bradbury may have intended the reader to take away. Then, take on the perspective of Margot, William, or one of the other nameless students in the story. Imagine that it is 9 years after "All Summer in a Day" takes place, and students from that class have just graduated from high school and are 18 years old. Two years ago was the last time that they saw the sun again since that day when they locked Margot away. Graduation can be a time to reflect on who you are and who you were throughout school, so one of the students has decided to write a letter trying to make sense of that event.
Options:
A. Take on the perspective of 18 year old Margot writing a reflective letter to William just after graduation. Does she write to let him know the full consequence of his ignorant actions? Does she write to forgive him?
B. Take on the perspective of 18 year old William writing a reflective letter to Margot just after graduation. What does he think about the event after reflecting back on it? What does he have to say to Margot?
C. Take on the perspective of one of the other 18 year old nameless students who agreed to leave Margot in the closet. Imagine that you are writing to William, or imagine that you are writing to Margot. What would this person reflect on about that event?
*Whichever one that you pick, please include and highlight a correct compound sentence. Please also include an example of figurative language that is highlighted. This figurative language can explain how the character feels or what the event was like for that student. (2 pts)
